La Catrina is an iconic and important character in the celebration of Day of the Dead in Mexico. She is a skeletal figure with an elegant feathered hat and a long dress that represents death.
La Catrina was created by the Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posada in the 1910s as a satirical critique of the Mexican aristocracy of the time, which mocked popular customs and traditions. However, her image has become a symbol of Mexican culture and is a representation of death that is celebrated and honored during Day of the Dead.
During this festival, people build altars with offerings for the deceased, and the image of La Catrina is often included in these altars along with other traditional elements such as sugar skulls, candles, and marigold flowers. Additionally, many people dress up as La Catrina during Day of the Dead to participate in processions and celebrations.
